Dr. Kuo-Szu Peter Chiang received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, in 2001, and is currently a Professor in the Division of Biometrics, Department of Agronomy, at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taiwan. Since 2023, he has served as an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Plant Pathology.
His research applies statistical methodologies to plant epidemiology and biosecurity, including collaborations with the USDA to develop quantitative standards for disease severity assessment. In recent years, he has focused on biosecurity surveillance and invasive species risk management, working with the Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA) at the University of Melbourne.
In August 2025, Dr. Chiang completed a one-month research visit at the Centre for Data Science, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), collaborating with Professor Kerrie Mengersen’s team on Bayesian modeling for early pest detection. He also worked with CSIRO Data61 researchers to explore integrating AI and statistical modeling into surveillance systems. The visit established a Taiwan–Australia collaboration framework and laid the groundwork for future research on international verification of Pest Free Areas.
